Trip to Taiwan
It’s been more than 5 years since my last oversea trip, an finally 2015 we’ve decided to go to Taiwan. Initially we planned for a independent trip but since we didn’t have much time to work on planning the trip, we ended up joining a tour package by Ipoh Overland. You gotta be wondering why we choose for tour package instead of independent trip right? We opt for package tour as we want to have an overview visit in Taiwan and then decides which place we would like to spend more time visiting.
There are some benefit for joining a tour package would be cheaper as it includes accommodation, transport, tickets and foods, except for night market where you have your freedom to choose what you want to eat. We’ll share our opinion regarding on tour package in another post, but now let’s get this trip started.
Malaysia Airlines MH0408
This time we fly with Malaysia Airlines. We departed via KLIA 1, which we thought it was no longer operate, but we were acknowledge that Some MAS Flights were still based in KLIA 1. We were served with either Sweet Sour Chicken Rice Set or Sizzling Chicken Noodle which served together bread rolls, potato salad and chocolate cake.
The flights took 5 hours to reach Tao Yuan International Airport and it was pretty cold, around 20°C at 6:15 a.m. We were greeted with our Taiwan Tour Guide Mr Eddy Chen and immediately we depart to Taipei to see if we’re able to check in to the hotel, but we’re we no luck since it wasn’t the check in time yet. Thus we went for a walk-around in Taipei.
Check in time in majority of hotel in Taiwan is 3pm, not 12-2pm as per in Malaysia.
Ximending, or Xi MenDing is one of a must visit place in Taipei. There’s loads of shopping and eatery here, so take your time to walk-around then decides what to eat later on. The area isn’t that complicated, and if you’re in urge to go to toilet, KFC the fast food restaurant would be convenience.
Bitter Gourd Juice can be easily found here, it didn’t taste bitter at all as it was they mixed honey together with bitter gourd and blended up together. It’s really refreshing in such weather.
蔥抓餅 – Pancake with bacon and egg
We had a rather simple lunch as we’re still full and we opt for this familiar-looking pancake with bacon and egg. basically a bacon with egg wrapped with a pancake which looks and taste exactly like roti canai in Malaysia. It cost around NTD50 and the taste was pretty nice, especially with the heavily flavour from the bacon itself.
Ah Mao Risotto Restaurant with their golden retriever doggy resting in the front entrance always attract visitor to play with them. Our tour guide mentioned to us that more and more Taiwanese opt to adopt pet like dog rather than having their own human baby.
After couple hours of walk in Ximending we decided to get back to hotel and see if our room is ready. So we shared a taxi and it cost us NTD 320.
City Lake Hotel
We checked in to our room around 3pm and start exploring our room. Overall the room were nice, clean and well equipped including multi-adapter which is important for those who didn’t have travel adapter. The bathtub were clean, tea and coffee as complimentary. The location was quite well as you can find a lot of restaurant around the area (5 – 10 minutes walk). We took some time to rest and prepare our self for the dinner later.

Dumpling at 承記鍋貼
We had our dinner in 承記鍋貼 Neihu District. This is our first dinner in Taiwan so we choose local’s suggestion and we landed in 承記鍋貼. You will be presented with an order form to fill in the item and quantity and they will take it from there. Pan Fried Dumpling is highly recommended here and they have wide range of steamed dumpling for you to choose from. We ordered Wanton Noodle and of course, Taiwan famous rice, the Braised Pork Rice which is one of the famous food in the list. Dumpling we had here was well flavoured while the skin is smooth and not too thick. While the wanton noodle were quite similar to our local Pan-Mee in Malaysia. The broth were sweet while the wanton tasted well (same taste as their steamed dumpling). And lastly their Braised Pork Rice wasn’t too oily as we thought, 30% braised minced pork and 70% Taiwan Rice.
